The goal of Foster Academy is to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for students with high functioning Autism, Asperger Syndrome and other learning differences, such as ADD/ADHD, in the 5th through 12th grades. Our focus is to provide these students with a quality education, along with life and social skills that will afford them independence and improved integration into society.
Foster Academy is a ministry of University Baptist Church on Jordan Lane in Huntsville, Alabama. We are grateful for this partnership that enables us to serve families in the area.
Courses are taught using differentiated instruction and based on the Alabama Course of Study using a variety of resources, both textbook and online. Throughout your child's time at Foster Academy in the 5th through 8th grades, he or she will learn:
- Mathematics (up to Pre-algebra), advanced learners may take Algebra I
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Science (including labs)
- Integrated social and life skills instruction such as money management, conflict resolution, etc.
Courses are taught using differentiated instruction and based on the Alabama Course of Study using a variety of resources, both textbook and online. The high school curriculum at Foster Academy is taught by certified teachers and does not rely on computer learning, although we do integrate technology into our classrooms. Foster Academy high school students receive:
- 4 years of core courses (science, math, social studies, and English), as well as several exciting electives.
- 4 years of integrated social and life skills instruction such as budgeting, cooking, home and auto repair, and transition to adulthood and independent living.
