Foster Academy was founded by a mother of a student with high-functioning autism. After pursuing a number of avenues in both public and private settings, she was disappointed in the lack of support and opportunity available to her child. After consulting with a number of experts, including therapists and teachers, she and a group of educators founded this school with the support of the congregation of University Baptist Church.

Foster Academy was founded to serve students with high-functioning autism, Aspergers and other learning differences who are able to function moderately well in a classroom setting with independence across most adaptive skills.
